The Academy was inagurated by Anil Kumble, one of the most successful cricketers of India and Karnataka on 29th of March 2009.
Anil Kumble inaugurated his former Karnataka team-mate J. Arun Kumar’s academy here on Sunday afternoon. The Nimritha J. Arun Kumar Cricket Academy is located on Sarjapur Road.
This is what Kumble had to say on the Academy and Arun - “Arun is a friend and we call him ‘JAK’ and it is nice to see that he is giving back to the game while he is still an active player.
“Knowing JAK, I am sure he is not the kind of cricketer who will merely lend his name to the academy. He might miss out for the next two months due to the Indian Premier League but he should be a regular presence here after that and it helps that he stays next door to the academy.
“JAK was and is a talented cricketer and he was one of those unfortunate players who never got a chance at the highest level,” Kumble said while inaugurating the academy.
Arun Kumar meanwhile promised a quality academy with the best facilities for trainees in the age group of five to 18. “We are upgrading the facilities here and soon you will see a green turf all over.
“The academy will commence its summer camp here on April 1 and we will conduct training in two sessions — one in the morning and another in the evening. I thank Mr. Krishnamurthy, who offered his piece of land for the academy and for his generous support,” Arun said (Mr. R Krishnamurthy (Chairman) of the Academy, is an avid cricket follower. His areas of expertise include construction and floriculture.)
